Aloha. My name is Adventure.
I’ll be your host today, as I take you on a hike up to the Lanikai Pillboxes, which are in Lanikai, Kailua, on the eastern side of Oahu, in Hawaii.
The start of the hike is located at 382, Kaelaepulu, Drive, in Kailua, and is open from 6am to 8pm daily.
Be very careful when parking your car in Lanikai by making sure that you are completely off of the pavement, and that you are not blocking a driveway.
It is a good idea to always remove or hide everything that is visible in you vehicle, as you never want to come back from an adventure and discover that your vehicle has been broken in to.
Please be mindful of the neighbors that live there and never litter.
The hike will take you at least an hour round-trip, probably longer, especially if you stop at all, which you absolutely should be stopping to rest and to take in the scenery.
After all, it is the most stunning view around.
Wear tennis shoes or hiking shoes as this is a rigorous hike.
If it has been raining recently, it can be very muddy and slippery, so please plan accordingly.
This hike is quite steep throughout the entire hike.
The higher up you go, the hotter it is as the dark volcanic rock blasts heat back at you.
Be sure you bring plenty of water and sunscreen and plan on staying up at the pillbox for a while so you can enjoy the view.
The Lanikai Pillboxes are actually World War II military bunkers.
The hike takes you up along the Keolu Ridge.
There is another pillbox that is another hike from the first pillbox.
I’ll save that gorgeous view for you to check out in person, yourself.
Mahalo for watching and I look forward to seeing you at the second pillbox.
